Art Journaling

Me again....two posts in one day....

You will recall me saying that I had been doing some crafting whilst being missing for a while. Well I have been on YouTube quite a bit and absolutely loved watching the following very talented artists showcase their journal pages : Donna Downey, Dyan Reavely, Christy Tomlinson and France Papillon.

So I thought, I would love to try that  - even though - I must admit my first few pages ended up in the bin as it just didn't look anything like theirs.  They do it so simply that you would think its easy - but boy oh boy was I mistaken.

Anyway - I'm not good at drawing but tried my hand at drawing a flower....
I used my distress inks to ink up the page added some texture with stencils and distress ink and painted the flower with some acrylic paints.

Playing with acrylic paints was so much fun - I decided to just use paints on this page.  I taped up the page with masking tape - then gesso and threw on some paints - I wish you could feel how perfect the page feels - so much texture - I then used different colours acrylic paints and made my own lollipop flowers - don't laugh!

Same as the previous page, just no masking tape - just gesso, paints for the background and painted flowers in white...OK this looks more like a flower....hmmmm- are you still smiling.....?

Very bad quality photo - please bear with me. On this page I glued on some left over die cut flowers - added gesso for texture and acrylic paints.  Once again did some "artistic" flowers. I rather like the colours on this page, a pity the photo is so crappy.

OK, now we are an "Artist" lol- so why not try and draw some pretty faces - my son begged me to stop after the 10th face.....HA - no faith in my creativeness!!  I don't think she looks to bad - mmmmmm - me think she looks rather sexy. Distressed the page with ink- stamped some bubble wrap for texture and drew my sexy girl.
The 2nd face that was saved from the bin was the thinner version of the first saved face.  Same as before distressed the page with distress ink - stamped some texture and painted by short haired girl.  I think they really look fine..... Rosemarie says that they are abstract portraits - love that "abstract" hahahahaha - I think she just didnt want to tell me its "crap"

Now that we an Artist we have to try our hand at all kinds of paintings - so on YouTube there was a woman and I forget her name now - but anyway she went through her journal and I absolutely loved the way all her pages were based on houses, and that is how this page was born.  Not quite like hers - she is obviously a real artist that can draw - but for a start I think they look quite snazzy.  I read on Pinterest somewhere that you should copy somebody's work unashamedly until you find yourself doing your own thing...so this is the beginning. I can honestly say that I didn't do a good job of copying any pages from anyone - hahahaha -
You can do whatever you want to in your journal - doodling, painting, drawing, paper piercing, stamps, just about anything that you fancy.  on this page I cut the houses from card stock for the walls of the houses - inked it up with different stencils and glued it onto the page. The roofs I embossed and cut in triangles and glued onto the walls of the house.  Painted the background - stamped some images - coloured them in with inks and distress inks and glued them onto the page, and here is the end result.

This page we wanted to get really creative and I tried to copy someone's journal page seen on pinterest but aiy yai yai - I cant even do that....lol. I added tissue paper with gesso to give it some texture - added different blue acrylic paints and once again did some lollipop flowers with leaves all over.

I know that a journal is normally a notebook where you can keep a diary of all your thoughts.  Well right now my journal is more a "Visual Diary" where I would like to showcase my experiences in the painting world - good and bad

Who knows maybe one day I will become a famous "Artist" just like the talented women mentioned at the beginning of this post- a girl can dream...

I must let you know however  - the experience in creating these pages has been really fun and stress free.  I believe a journal is a space where I can do whatever I want to and where even my mistakes sometimes just fits in perfectly.  Its a space where I dont have to stress about stamping clear and even though my drawings never look like I see it in my mind - its mine and it is great fun! It is an excellent stress reliever.

Thank you for visiting and hopefully I can showcase more of my wonderful perfect art pieces - hahahaha.
