Wax Crayon Background

We recently did a swap - well technically it wasn't really a swap - but rather information sharing and to encourage all to get out of their comfort zone..  There were about 30 ladies who had to choose a technique that could be used as a background.  The trick was that you couldn't really choose a technique that you were comfortable with or that you knew how to do.  The whole point was to learn something new.

I had the privilege to do a wax crayon background - Ive never worked with wax crayons before other than to colour images.... so this was really out of my comfort zone, but thanks to Susan Nel who gave me some guidelines...this is what my background looked like.

And this is how I did it.

What you will need:
Wax Crayons - plain and/or metallic
Iron with no steam holes or foil
White Card Stock\
Paper Towel

Method

1. Cover iron with foil if a steam-less iron is not available
2. Melt - colours of choice - plain or metallic wax crayons onto the foil or base of the iron.
3. Gently iron the mixed colours onto the card stock
4. Repeat point 2 until card is fully covered
5. Once the card stock is fully covered the image may have dirty marks from the iron plate and/or foil - gently heat the card stock again either the iron or a heat gun and wipe with paper towel to remove the top layer of wax or leave as is depending on preference.
6. Last but not least - if using just the plain wax crayons - melt a metallic colour on the base of the iron and apply to the card to add a little sparkle.
7. If need be, wipe the wax again with paper towel for a smooth look

Colours used in the example: Brown, Orange and Yellow as well as  gold metallic crayons
